Planetary or worm gearbox?
Choose a planetary gearbox when you need high torque in a small space. Its input and output shafts share the same axis. Planetary gearboxes are efficient, up to 97% per stage, with backlash as low as 1 to 3 arc-minutes. This suits servo motors, robots and precise positioning. Single, double and triple stage models cover ratios from 3:1 to 100:1 and higher.
Choose a worm gearbox when the drive has to turn a corner. Its output shaft sits at a right angle to the input. Worm gearboxes run smoothly and quietly, and they can be mounted in any orientation. Housings are die-cast aluminium for frame sizes 025 to 090 and cast iron for sizes 110 to 150.
